Some of the methods, tools, and technologies we’ve successfully applied for our partners’ projects include:

Complete system design, integration, commissioning, and support
We deliver comprehensive solutions to a wide variety of industries for factory, manufacturing, and laboratory test automation systems that can encompass the entire lifecycle of a project or help supplement a particular phase. From project planning to on-site support, we have the expertise to help our partners succeed.

Application of ideal control hardware
Years of experience with various control systems and platforms allow us to apply the most appropriate tool to help realize a project’s objectives. Our engineers are well-versed in the intricacies of motion controllers, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), programmable automation controllers (PACs), and high-performance PC-based control solutions for projects of all scopes and complexities.

Operator interface design and implementation
From simple pushbutton stations to complex human-machine interface (HMI) panels and everything in between, Intellimech has applied all kinds of operator interfaces and software in our engineered systems. We work closely with our partners to ensure that interface meets both functional and aesthetic design goals.

Precision motion systems and servo-controlled mechanisms
Our engineering team has applied virtually every motion technology including stepper motors, linear and rotary servomotors, pneumatic cylinders, precision mechanical stages, ball screws, racks and pinions, and many more to achieve our design intent. From single-axis systems to 64-axis coordinated, synchronized motion systems and beyond, we have the capabilities required to effectively apply these technologies to your project.

Robot integration
Intellimech’s engineers excel at implementing comprehensive robotic cells, whether the kinematic is a six-axis articulated or a SCARA, delta, or cartesian, in order to successfully deliver an application’s requirements. We’re skilled at performing reach and envelope studies alongside innovative engineering to optimize a cell’s layout to deliver path accuracy, positioning repeatability, force/torque transmission, or other design criteria. Process and personnel safety considerations are fundamental in our design philosophy and we incorporate those into our engineering process from the project’s start, whether the need ranges from a traditional robot cell to an operator-collaborative cell. Our team’s significant experience with both specifying standard end-effectors or engineering custom end-of-arm tooling (EOAT) helps maximize a system’s effectiveness while helping navigate potential challenges for our partners.

Fieldbus-distributed I/O, motion, and control systems
A continuing trend in machine automation is the decentralization of control hardware from electrical enclosures. Numerous machine design possibilities are realizable when high-speed fieldbuses are used to interface remotely-mounted I/O systems, motion control, and HMIs. Intellimech’s engineers have the in-depth experience with networking EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, PROFINET, PROFIBUS, POWERLINK, CAN, AS-i, SERCOS, and many others that’s required to successfully meet your design goals.

Simulation and analysis
Using sophisticated tools like those available in MATLAB, Simulink, and SolidWorks allows us to model and simulate complex systems under virtually any condition. This allows our engineers to characterize a design’s performance while helping identify and mitigate potential challenges. When the project calls for it, we perform finite element analysis (FEA), computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis, and vibration analysis to help design and build efficient yet robust mechanisms and systems that achieve our partners’ objectives.

Integrating machine vision and sensing technologies
We’ve successfully applied machine vision to projects that run the gamut from fast-paced manufacturing environments to high-precision laboratory inspection and everything in between. Our experience with selecting and integrating the right sensor technology, from distance measurement to color detection to proximity, will help your project succeed.

Safety design and commissioning
Personnel, equipment, and process safety is always an important concern. The engineers at Intellimech are adept with all phases of implementing a comprehensive safety system from risk assessments to safety distance calculations to functional verification. We apply technologies like laser area scanners, light curtains, SafeMotion, and safety PLCs to deliver systems that are both highly productive and safe. Sending equipment to Europe and need to obtain a CE mark? Our team is well-versed in the requirements of the latest Machinery Directive and will assist in the process.

Machine structure design
Whether your project requires a stand-alone machine base or integration into an existing manufacturing cell, you can rely on Intellimech to meet the challenge. We’ve engineered extremely high-precision structures that require vibration isolation and environmental controls, bases optimized for maximum stiffness and minimum deflection under high loading, and specialized structures for considerations like laser emissions or wash-down requirements.

Custom mechanical components
When our partners’ projects call for custom-designed mechanisms or components, we answer with innovative, effective solutions to meet those needs. The experience our team of engineers brings to the table allows us to concept, detail, and deliver custom solutions to facilitate fabrication and assembly and exceed your expectations.

3D and 2D system design and layout
Intellimech’s engineers make use of both 3D and 2D computer-aided design (CAD) tools based on our partners’ project requirements and design considerations. Making use of the most appropriate tools and applying them as they’re needed allows our engineers to maximize their effectiveness on your project.

Electrical panel design and UL 508A build services
We’re deeply experienced in providing complete layouts for single or multiple enclosures, specifying and detailing cabling and connectors, handling difficult cable management scenarios, and incorporating both local and distributed I/O subsystems into our designs. In addition, our engineers perform short-circuit current rating (SCCR) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) analysis on electrical designs as needed for your project’s requirements. When it’s time to bring the design to life, Intellimech is a UL 508A-certified industrial control panel provider.

Compliance with U.S. and international standards
Our engineers have successfully delivered solutions all over the world and we can help determine which standards are relevant to our partners’ projects. We’re accomplished and proficient with standards for UL, CE, NFPA, ANSI, and others. Let Intellimech help you navigate the complexity of compliance.
